To celebrate Small Business Week, we are sharing the importance of making your business visible online.  Businesses that are online grow 40% faster than those that aren’t.  There is no better time than this week to give your business a digital makeover.  Here are four simple things you can do to help get your business online.

1. Show up on Google and other search engines.  Search for your business and see what comes up.  If you don’t see your website at all, talk to a search engine optimization specialist for help.  If you haven’t claimed your business listing on Google, make sure to do so, that way customers can find the right info about your business on Google Search and Maps.

2. Get advice from professionals, experts and colleagues in the Small Business Community.  Look for organizations or other similar businesses to get more insight into how your community works together.  You would be amazed at how much you can learn from being friendly with competitors.

3. Claim your domain.  If you haven’t already claimed your domain, make sure to claim it before someone else has.  If your domain is taken, consider using .net, .co or another postfix.  Visit GoDaddy.com to check for availability.  Claim all social media accounts with your business name as well to make sure you are branded across the web.  Even if you don’t use every social media network yet, it is still good to have your name on all of them for future use.

4. Don’t forget about mobile.  Is your website visible on mobile devices in searches and using a mobile-friendly web design?  Make sure you have a responsive website to fit various screen sizes for smart phones and tablets.  Being visible to customers on mobile devices allows them to easily find you on-the-go when they may be more likely ready to make a purchase.  Google also gives a strong preference to mobile-friendly websites, so it can help you rank higher on searches.
